About

The Maryland Club Open is one of the premiere events of the Maryland Club squash program.  Maryland Club Racquets Director, Andrew Cordova, founded the Maryland Club Open in 2003. In its 16-year history, the tournament has encompassed three major professional squash tours (ISDA, SDA, and Legends of Squash).  In addition to hosting several events in conjunction with the tournament, in 2015 the Maryland Club Open hosted the first ever SDA Annual Awards.  Along with the coveted SDA professional draws, the pro-ams are a highlight to the membership. Now including 24 teams with annual wait lists, the pro-am draws involve both professionals and members competing together and producing life-long friendships.

The tournament’s first Chairman, Doug Hoffberger, was instrumental in further developing the event, a position he maintained for 10 straight Maryland Club Opens. On Sunday, October 13th, 2013, the final day of the 10th anniversary tournament, he was recognized for his service to a packed gallery of members, professionals and fans. Currently Hugh McGuirk is the tournament Chairman, a position he has held since 2014.
